Nina is one of the core characters of Between Failures, and works at the Megatainment store like the others. She loves books, and appears to work exclusively in that area of the store. She is around 26 years old at the start of the comic (the same age as Thomas).

Appearance

Physique

Nina is very tall (at around 6'3", she's taller than Thomas though some viewers think she is 6'1") and generally of lean build. She appears Caucasian, has light blue eyes, a small nose and relatively pronounced 'buck' teeth. She also has large, prominent ears, giving her a something of a 'sexy geek' look.

She has yellow-blonde hair, which she typically wears very long in a variety of styles. When she parts her hair, she generally does so to the left.

Clothing

While at work, Nina usually wears seems to prefer a round-necked, short-sleeved t-shirt without a collar (like Carol's). Owing to her height, these often leave her midriff bare. She does have some long-sleeved shirts with a collar, but is often persuaded to part with them by Jo.

Away from the store, Nina favours either sportwear or a belted jacket worn with a hat.

Job Role

Nina runs the Books department of the Megatainment Store, with occasional help from the part-timers. We know she's been at the store a fair while (almost as long as Thomas).

Nina is fairly relaxed at work, and seem to enjoy the various pranks and games Thomas inflicts on the staff under the guise of 'teambuilding'. She seems most amused when John has to announce that "Thomas Blackwell runs Bartertown" over the store PA.

Despite her generally overwhelming optimism, it is apparent that working at the store does occasionally get to Nina. She'd ideally like a job at the local library.

Relationships

Ed

Nina is clearly drawn to Ed from early on in the story, possibly owing to his similarities to Harry Potter, whom she seems to harbour numerous fantasies about. She is not shy of demonstrating her affection physically. The first independent hint Nina gets that Ed is interested in her comes from Jo, who seemingly overheard Thomas and Ed earlier the same 'day'. She seems pleased, considering him "...cute an' bookish".

Thomas

Nina counts Thomas as a clearly close friend, and probably had some feelings for him (long before him getting together with Carol). However, they never acted on them, despite being through a lot together and having known each other for longer than any of the other characters.

Nina is very supportive of Jo, and seems happy to lend her clothes if it makes her feel happy and comfortable (even though they are clearly too large for Jo to sensibly wear). She is also happy to share her fantasies with Jo, suggesting they are quite close.

Behavior

Nina is generally cheerful and optimistic. She is also relatively insightful, as well as being well aware of Thomas and Carol's mutual attraction (even before their getting together). She also understands some of the reasons they haven't acted on it. In general, Nina likes to minimise conflict, occasionally pushing the others to play nice.

Nina continues to push Carol quite hard to get together with Thomas, seeming convinced they should be together. Amusingly, both Carol and Thomas refer to her living in a fantasy world, querying the colour of its sky (likely a nod to their future compatibility).

Nina seems very at ease with her own sexuality, and often admits her attraction to others, fictional or otherwise (notably Harry Potter and/or Ed). Some of her jokes and punchlines include at least some innuendo. She's also more than happy to give out hugs.

• Nina's long hair is usually clearly visible, but is especially apparent on the rare occasions we see her from behind.
• Nina has a pin badge on one of her hats that matches the skull motif shown above the 'I' in the Between Failures logo (also used as the Webicon for this Wiki).
