I agree with you. For my count I considered that the head of the character must be visible. I saw your grouping about customers and so on and I think it is a good idea. One just have to decide what we consider a group. For former character I think you are right. I would prepare a 'student' group for later on but I think 'other' is OK for the fantasized character, like the Mass Effect characters and so on.

I would really want to help you do the statistics per 100 panels anyway. We could for example share the blocks or smth like that.
I have a question about your counting method : how do you count people speaking who are not shown in the panel (e.g. Jess in strip 33) ?
